In the year 2009, I tried rank NIT based on Research and especially considered Computer Science and Electronics departments. Last whole year I spend in collecting data about NITs, like AIEEE opening and closing ranks, GATE cutoff scores faculty and placement statistics to make ranking as close as possible. I also made a list of Top AIEEE colleges exclusive of opening and closing rank in AIEEE, and hope this is useful for students preparing for counseling.
There are another 10 new NITs announced and will accept admissions this year. I recommend new NITs when compared to old state universities. The reasons are same are I mentioned in New IITs Vs old NITs and universities.

This ranking is mostly influenced by AIEEE opening and closing ranks. I considered All India rank for open categories and for three different departments. Based on two simple mathematical formulas and took faculty qualification in two different departments. I feel placements are great in most of the NITs. I have completed btech in EEE. Planning to join Mtech. i Have no idea regarding the specialisation I should take. I would love to take up a career with any leading research institute, like DRDO. My other preference is to join the industry especially in the power sector. I am a bit sceptical about power systems , as i have heard this particular branch has now become obsolete or rather say many people are there with that specialisation, thayt my chances would become very small. please guide me with this. thanking you
