NIT Ranking 2017 is done based on JOSAA cutoffs (B.Tech Cutoffs) and CCMT Cutoffs (M.Tech Cutoffs) for the year 2016. Using cutoffs for ranking institutes gives a great absolute way to rank the institutes rather than some relative criteria that neither can be measured not of any interest to the students and parents alike.
We have been collecting cutoff information from official sources for a long time and organized information in a way to make it easy for students to see where they stand chance of getting admission into. That also helped us to figure out what is student choice when it comes to choosing a place to study.
Cutoff shows students’ choice for given institute and that also tell what kind crowed is found around the class and campus. Most importantly it gives a statistical based way to assess institutes. Being a computer science guy, I would prefer to make decisions based on data.
For ranking we considered cutoffs for 4 common departments, this also help us to reduce bias and error in ranking. Included departments are Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering.
