This question is asked few friends, instead of answering individually I m writing this and hope that this will help many like them.
Valid GATE score the term is little confusing for students as everyone got a GATE score and think its valid that is why they have score.
There are two things associated with it. One is valid time period and qualifying marks. Both the conditions should be satisfied to apply for admission to that institution.
GATE score are usually valid for two years, for example if you give GATE in 2010 and your marks are above qualifying marks, you are eligible to apply in 2011 for Master of Engineering admissions. But in 2012 your score is considered as invalid.
The next condition is about qualifying marks. Mere getting score does not show that its valid GATE score. Your score is only valid when it is above or equal to the score of qualifying marks. For example, if you have 16 marks and the qualifying marks for that year are mentioned as 25, then your GATE score is not valid.
Another question may rise, for this year I got 16 marks and qualifying score was 25, if next year qualifying marks decreased to 15, does it make my score valid? The simple answer is NO. The results for the same years will be considered for valid and invalid scores.

GATE SCORECARD
The GATE 2010 results will consist of marks obtained by the candidate, the GATE Score and All India Rank (AIR). Every candidate appearing in the examination will get a GATE scorecard.
GATE scorecard is valid for TWO YEARS from the date of announcement of the GATE 2010 results (March 15, 2010 at 10.00 hrs.). There is no provision for additional GATE scorecards.

Sir, I have got GATE score 300 and marks obtained are 33.67 and qualifying marks are 35.52. But score card says that “A candidate is considered eligible for availing assistantship governed by MHRD, GOI if the marks secured are more than or equal to the qualifying mark in the category under which the candidate seeks admission, which means these marks make student qualify for assistship. Then should we consider these marks only as limit for valid GATE score?

i mean if ne person has %ile 85-90 range dn 4 wich cges dy can apply….again for 90-95 n so on…….just like d way u divides d nit in 3 tiers…..dt was gr8 one….

if the GATE score is not a qualifying GATE score ,it means that it is not a valid SCORE ,then in what sence meaning that it is valid till march 2011????
what i unserstood is qualifying GATE score is a score for getting the Scolarship only , student securing marks below qualifying marks are not eligible for scholarship .
