Usually GATE notification come in the mid of September, but this time it’s being announced earlier. As we predicted IITD will be organizing GATE 2012. One major change happened this year. Third year engineering students are not eligible for GATE 2012. Final Year Engineering students can appear for GATE. This is a good move towards a clear admission strategy for M.Tech, which I pointed in a series of posts M.Tech admissions what to consider, and What matters most in M.Tech Admissions.
Application Process and Fee:
GATE aspirants need to apply online for GATE 2012. There no offline or paper based application in GATE 2012. There is no sale of GATE application form at different Banks and counters. Candidates need to apply through their regional GATE websites. To know your zone please refer to GATE 2012 information brochure.
The application fee is Rs. 1000/- for General/OBC candidates and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/PD candidates.

There is a twist in the tale to GATE this year – eventhough GATE2012 score is valid for two years , pre-final year students are not allowed to take the exam . This is rightly a “good move towards a clear admission strategy for M.Tech” as pointed out by Dr. Zahid.
GATE 2012 is round the corner. It is laudable that many of the PSUs have recognised the quality and quantity of the exam and have resorted to selection of talented and research oriented students via GATE 2012. In this regard, I’d like to draw the attention of our respected moderator, Dr. Zahid to post a thread on the plethora of avenues that GATE has to offer this time. Various PSUs like BHEL, NTPC, IOCL have embarked onto the GATE bandwagon to recruit trainees for their firm. It is indeed awesome to reckon the popularity of GATE exam and the manner in which this has been achieved. I presume the numbers will go skyrocketing this time vis-a-vis the cut-off and the admissions. Moreover, there is reason to rejoice as the Govt. will sanction PG courses to more colleges. I am a 3rd year student in Computer Science and Engineering. Well I have a percentage of below 60% in 1st semester and 2nd semester but above 60% in both 3rd and 4th semester.
I would like to know that whether i am eligible for M.Tech if I have an aggregate of above 60% after my 8th semester examination.

And i belong to SC catogory. is there reservation among Sponsered Catagory. If i can apply as a sponsor than how much benifit i can get.. is compitition is tough for Sponsored candidate?

@akash there is nothing to be discouraged u can give gate for practice anyway but yeah u have to show urself as final yr . and u could get a jest of gate real environment .
if any student is passed out in 2011….but having a backlog in any one subject then what about him.

However this would bring gap in my studies…and i also took drop after 12th.. So in total this would make the gap to 2years…

Can u please evaluate what will be the effect of not allowing 3rd year students in gate 2012, on the results and M.tech admissions in 2012.
Since they allowed them in 2011, that score was also valid for two years.
You will face real competition. At present, if you get a rank of 3,000, you don’t know the real number of competitors i.e. before your rank, there can be 2,000 students or can be just 1 3rd year student. In former case, your rank can be said as 1,000 as remaining 2,000 are not going to take admission.

What about the 3rd years who are preparing seriously for that and going to coachings. This is a mercyless thing done to us. You could have informed this thing after 2011 gate only know.
They get an additional one year for preperation.
I agree, even i m 4m 3rd year and going to gate coaching. It really hurts but v can’t do anything , not even ANSHAN. But can give d gate just 4 d practice , though v r not eligible.
