Eligibility for GATE 2021 is given from the official GATE organizing institute. It covers GATE eligibility for Engineering, MSc, MCA, and other students. It’s important for non Engineering degree students to Know eligibility for the GATE exam.
To know more about how many students write the GATE exam and Qualify each year do check GATE statistics. The following categories of candidates are Eligibility for GATE
- A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program.
- A candidate who has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible for appearing in the GATE 2022 exam.
- However, the candidates who possess certification from any of the professional societies must ensure that those examinations conducted by the societies are approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. / B.Planning, etc.
- Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or completed their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 3 years) in Engineering / Technology / Science / Arts / Commerce.

GATE Eligibility for Other than Engineering Students
- 2nd and 3rd year MCA students are eligible for GATE.
- 1st and 2nd year MSc students are eligible for GATE based on qualifying degree.
- BSc. BCA and BCS (a three years degree) students are not eligible for GATE Exam.
- BSc. (Tech), a four years degree, final year students are eligible for GATE exam.
- B.Tech or BE integrated students are eligible from their third year of the integrated degree.

GATE Civil is your choice. If you use CCMT GATE Cutoff or IIT GATE cutoff tool and select CE as GATE paper you can see lot of options of construction mgmt course whereas AR is limited to Arch and planning.
Students of BA Economics are also eligible for GATE?
No BA students are not allowed. If you do MA, you can apply for PhD in IITs.

Hello Sir, I have been following your videos. I find your posts very helpful. Now, I am pursuing MCA from IGNOU. Currently, I am in the sixth semester but I have a number of backlogs that have stacked up from previous semester exams. Also, I am preparing for 2018 GATE CSE exam and, hopefully, will clear these exams by the time the result for 2018 GATE exam gets declared. Actually, I did B.sc (IT) from Kuvempu University Distance mode. Also, I haven’t had any paper of maths or physics but all computer science subjects. However, during MCA, I had all the computer science subjects and 3 papers of mathematics. Also, I belong to SC/ST category. How much do I need to score in GATE with these parameters to get into IISc or IITs. Also, please tell me if I can get into top 3 NITs with these parameters in case IISc’s or IITs overlook my eligibility considering I did not have maths in my graduation, despite the fitting gate score?

No. You cannot do that officially. You can only take gate after or in 10th sem.

I just completed my B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Kerala. I wish to take an MBA from a very good B-School, either from India or abroad. But presently, I am under the impression that a minimum work experience is required for admission to an mba programme.. I was not able to get into a good company through campus placements. All that came were software companies. So i decided to do my M-Tech in a course which is closest to an mba. Some recommended M-Tech in Industrial Engineering & Management is the next best thing i could do before my mba presently, as it has almost the same things one would come across during an mba. I was told that if i could manage to do my M-Tech in Industrial Engineering & Management from a good university like the IITs or the NITs, that would fetch me a good job and then after 3-4 years, i could try to get into a good B-School with sufficient work experience and also a good academic back ground. With this idea in mind, i have presently joined a GATE coaching center in Hyderabad (ACE) to prepare for the same.
Sir, i would like to know if my decision is right. These are certain things I’m concerned about :
– Does Industrial Engineering & Management course have value (scope) in India or abroad?
– Will I get a good job after this course ?
– Which are the good universities in India offering this course ?
– Do i have any other alternatives ?

i have completed b.tech in 2008 with ece background. presently working as teaching profession in engineering college(since 1 year).i am interested in m.tech in iits/nits/university colleges. i have tried once in 2008 but got less score with that i will get private colleges only.i dont want to do in those colleges. i must do m.tech in any iit’s/nit’s/university colleges.do i get any stipend(how much)…and how much tution fee at iits/nits/univ colleges. from this year onwards stipends were increased(i heard it)…its about rs.10,500.is there any residence facilities provided for married students at iits/nits (for family). how much they will charge for room rents and other incentives…..is this residence given based on gate score, any reservation(because i am belonging to st category).please inform me on mail id:[email protected].

sir i have scored 62.18 percent and my cgpa is 6.88 in b.e from electronics and telecom..every university consider 60 as first class. bt my university 65 as first class . so in degree it is writen 2nd class wid 62 percent or 6.88 cpi on 10 scale..bt in mtech for admission 1st classs is needed and same in drdo..they write in notification 1st class in engg. and they also write if class in not aworded den agreegate 60% or 6.75 cgpa is considered. iam worried if they reject me in interview.same in bel (bharat electronics limited).in some company dey mention 60 percent ..bt most write 1st class.

The valifation is based on carriculam but when we talk about your preparation fo the Gate exam then you should manage your time about your favourite subjects and favourite topics .
Many students does a wrong thing during preparation that they study more deeply any topics but this is harmfull enough from point of view of time management and this peoblem can be avoided by youself

Anup: There is nothing mentioned about number times one can attempt GATE exam in eligibility conditions, so you can attempt as many times as you can.

I have done my b.tech in computer science this year.And have started preparing for gate 2011.But my problem is that I have recently got a back log in 7 sem.Iwant to ask you whether after clearing my backlog will I be able to get admission in m.tech courses in good colleges.My agg. % in btech is 67.
Saji: As for as I have seen, its no problem to have a backlog, until your degree says or you passed in first class. or if eligibility condition say 60% and dont mention about class. So read the instructions carefully.

I am having a ME degree from one of the self finance college affiliated to ANNA University. I applied for Phd in IIT,IISC. Even though they shortlisted my application, at interview , those professors are not considering me as a PG student. In one of the interview they said “we are expecting a student at least from a Government Engineering College or NIT”. So i planned to do on more PG at one of the finest Engineering College in India. Is that legal to do one more M Tech after writing GATE with stipend, since because i sponsored myself for the PG degree which i am holding.
