I had attended the interview of ISI Mtech QROR after clearing the written exam. My strong suggestions/information to everyone who wants to take admission in this institute is :-

    (1) They may or may not take you, irrespective of how was your exam or interview, depending upon seat and their personal baisedness. A current ISI student may have a worse exam or interview than a non-student.

    (2) They are well known for their baisedness, in every course they will take at least 50% of Bengali, in both written exam and final after interview. You will see all the professors, clerks, assistants, librarians are Bengali there.

    (3) No matter how strong you are in your subject, they are well experienced and knows flaws of each concept and will ask deep rooted substance about each thing. You may answer some questions and some questions you will fail to answer. It is because there will be 15-20 interviewers in a seminar room and within some minutes or say seconds you will have to answer the question correctly. And believe me your mind will not work proper in place where you are fired by the typical questions. For example one question was asked to me that for the solution of the equation below, x=5/4,
    Sqrt(x+1)-sqrt(x-1) = sqrt(4x-1)
why the equation is giving result 1=2.
Later I found the answer within 10 minutes after I return from interview room.

    (4) The level of questions asked in B.Stat and B.Math is nearly of IIT level, and kolkata students who are not able to qualify IIT exams easily find a place in written exam. Not so much bengali students are seen qualifying the IIT exams or any state level exams. In case of Non bengali students there is seldom anyone who qualifies ISI exam will not have a position under AIR 6000.

Above all the Institute is very good, best environment, best teaching, best facilities. If anyone who get a chance to take admission must not let the opportunity down.
My only saying at last to non-bengali students is that don’t expect much from this institute. The level of partiality you see will definitely remove your doubt about “fair and equal opportunity education”. It is in genes of Indians to develop partial behavior when two are competing. If a person is from their title or cast take it, if it is not then see whether he is from my area. If not, see if he is from my district, if not see if he is from my state, if not see if he is North, south, NE, of West and the series goes on to a microscopic level.
If you get a chance to get interviewed, go and enjoy the campus and surroundings. Remember it is not necessary to be at ISI for becoming successful. God Bless you !

I’ve given ISI Kolkata’s entrance exam for M.Tech in CS in 2011 and 2012.

    My observations :

    1) Nearly 50% of the selected candidates are only from Kolkata. So ISI thinks students from other cities don’t know CS ?

    2) In M.Stat and M.Math, nearly 90% of selected candidates are from Kolkata. Do the Profs there take private coaching and leak out question papers ?
