How to apply for M.Tech in private engineering colleges

2010 July 23

As M.Tech admissions to government colleges almost came to an end, and anxiety of student who got less GATE scores or not qualified GATE is increasing.
The new semester for M.Tech will start soon and many students don’t have an admission yet. I receive many mails and comments asking for announcing M.Tech admissions for non GATE students. In this post I will try to explain the procedure to apply for M.Tech admission in private Engineering colleges.

When it comes to private colleges students usually have two options, Deemed universities and private engineering colleges approved by AICTE for running M.Tech course. Deemed universities are UGC approved and are accepted by AICTE approved institute for higher education and jobs.

If you are following inspire n ignite for all M.Tech admissions you would have come across with common admission notices from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In these states M.Tech admissions are conducted centrally by their technical universities. Again GATE qualified candidates are preferred. If you want admission in a private engineering college you have the option of applying there as sponsored candidate. You can follow the below step.

First select a state and colleges where you want to apply. You can refer to M.Tech colleges in India, this gives a list of M.Tech colleges all over India and this list is prepared in light of an AICTE document. I also ranked engineering colleges based one their cutoff ranks for B.Tech and infrastructure you can use search given on this page to find more about ranking of engineering colleges in these states.

Once you selected a State and a college, where you want to study, I suggest you to visit their web site and conduct a small research on faculty and placements. Call the institute administrative office directly and ask about admission procedure and fee details for their college. If possible make sure you give a personal visit to the college and talk personally to the authorities. Don’t try to take help form agents usually they cheat innocent students. It we, who are going to take admissions and we know what we are doing and can do directly.

Even if seats are filled by GATE candidates every college will have at least 5% seats that are reserved for sponsored candidates and I am sure if you are desperate you will make it. You need make an extra effort to get it because you already missed a chance. Give your best efforts. Even if you got to travel over 2000 KM book the tickets and give it a try. Just go and try your best to get admission. Never give up at any circumstance, I know little extra effort will take help you reach your goal. Don’t give up as we really don’t know how close we are to success when we give up. So just go ahead and grab it. Wish you great luck ahead.
