Environment- Nature and Ecosystem ;Pollution- and Preventive measures of Water, Soil, Air and Noise Pollutions- Causes, Effects and management of Solid, Hazardous and E-Waste- Case studies on Occupational Health and Safety Management system (OHASMS).

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION & ENVIRONMENTAL LAW 9
The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 – Aims and Objects – Meaning of “Environment” and “Environmental Pollutant” – Powers and Functions of the Central Government – Environment Authority – Constitution – Delegation of Powers; Offences/Penalties – The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 – The Forests (Conservation) Act 1980 – The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981- The Environment (Protection) Act 1986

Unit IV

WATER POLLUTION & CONTROL 9
Sources of surface and ground water pollution – water quality parameters: COD, BOD, DO – Effect of water contaminants on human health (nitrate, fluoride, arsenic, chlorine, cadmium, mercury, pesticides) – water borne diseases – concept and working of effluent treatment plants (ETPs). Sources of marine pollution: oil spill, coral reefs, coastal area management – Control- Activated Sludge Process (ASP) – Trickling Filters – oxidation ponds, fluidized bed reactors, membrane bioreactor neutralization – ETP sludge management; digesters, up flow anaerobic sludge blanket
reactor, fixed film reactors, sequencing batch reactors, hybrid reactors, bio scrubbers, bio trickling filters – regulatory framework for pollution monitoring and control – Case study: Ganga Action Plan – Yamuna Action Plan.

Unit V

NOISE POLLUTION & CONTROL 9
Noise -sources, measurements, effects and occupational hazards – Standards – Noise mapping -Noise attenuation equations and methods, – prediction equations – control measures – Legal aspects of noise.

Course Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
