COMPOSITES 9 Definition and fundamentals of composites- need for composites – enhancement of properties -Reinforcement, classification, general characteristics, rule of mixture – Theory of composites – Mechanical behavior – Stress strain relationships. Applications of various types of composites.

Unit III

POLYMER MATRIX COMPOSITES 9 Open mould process, bag moulding, Hand layup and spray up techniques filament winding, compression and transfer moulding, BMC and SMC- pultrusion – centrifugal casting – injection moulding – structure, properties and application of PMCs – Carbon Matrix Composites – Interfaces- Properties – recycling of PMC.
