Course Objective:

Unit II

Conversion Process for Packaging Materials
Conversion process – Compression and transfer for moulding, Injection moulding, Blow moulding, Extrusion, roto moulding, thermoforming, Lamination, metallizing, decoration process, Shrink wrapping, Pallet and stretch wrapping

Unit III

Process for Flexible Packaging
Extrusion, film and flexible packaging – extrusion, cast film and sheet, Blown film, Multi layer film and sheet coatings, coextrusions, pouching, sealing, evaluation of seals in flexible packages, advantages of flexible packaging – flexible packaging products.

Testing of Plastic Packaging
Testing of plastic packages, Barrier, Migration and compatibility, Sterilization systems and health care products. Packaging hazards and their controls. Waste management act 2016.

Upon completing this course, the students

  • will Apply and examine the knowledge of properties for selection of packaging materials
  • will Select between different techniques of packaging
