Unit II

Plot Plan
Development of plot plan for different types of fluid storage, equipment layout, process piping layout, utility piping layout. Stress analysis -Different types of stresses and its impact on piping, methods of calculation, dynamic analysis, flexibility analysis.Different types of support based on requirement and its calculation.

Unit I

II Gas, Arc and Resistance Welding Processes:
Fundamental principles – Air Acetylene welding, Oxyacetylene welding, Carbon arc welding, Shielded metal arc welding, Submerged arc welding, TIG and MIG welding, Plasma arc welding and Electroslag welding processes – advantages, limitations and applications.,Spot welding, Seam welding, Projection welding, Resistance Butt welding, Flash Butt welding, Percussion welding and High frequency resistance welding processes – advantages, limitations and applications.

Unit V

Design of Weld Joints, Weldability and Testing of Weldments
Various weld joint designs – Weldability of Aluminium, Copper, and Stainless steels. Destructive andnon destructive testing of weldments.

Course Outcome:

  • Students gain knowledge on fundamentals of piping engineering, pipe hydraulics, piping supports . Upon completion of this course, the students can able to compare different types of Welding process for effective Welding of Structural components.
