Basic Concepts of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer
Basic concept – properties – point and path functions – systems – processes – thermodynamic equilibrium – laws of thermodynamics – Steady Flow Energy Equation (SFEE) – first law applied to open and closed systems – Second law of thermodynamics – heat engines and heat pumps Heat transfer – conduction – general conduction equation in Cartesian coordinates – conduction in composite walls. Convection – free and forced convection – simple empirical correlations. Radiation – laws – black body and grey body radiation.

Power Transmission

Rotodynamic and Vibratory Machines
Fans and compressors – types, construction, working principle, characteristics and applications. Single stage and multistage air compressors – inter cooling. Simple calculations for output and efficiency. Vibration – free and forced vibration. Vibrators and shakers – construction, working principle, applications and limitations. Approved HEAT and Mass Transfer and PSG Design Data Book is permitted to use in the examinations.
