GI3413: Digital Image Processing Laboratory syllabus for Geo 2021 regulation

Digital Image Processing Laboratory

Course Objectives:

  • To familiarize the undergraduate level students in the regular Image Processing Software.

Excercises:

  1. Image reading and writing
  2. Pre-processing techniques: radiometric correction
  3. Random and Periodic Noise removal
  4. Pre-processing techniques: Ground control and rectification
  5. Enhancements – histogram, filters
  6. Band ratioing and normalization – NDVI, SAVI & NDWI
  7. PCA
  8. Image fusion
  9. Classification -supervised &unsupervised
  10. Sub pixel classification
  11. Classification using Neural Network and Fuzzy Logic
  12. Accuracy assessment – correlation, RMSE & kappa
  13. Crop conditioning assessment/ inundation damage assessment/ forest fire/ change dynamic analysis

Course Outcomes:

On completion of the course, the student is expected to

  1. Enhance satellite imagery through filtering, band ratioing , PCA etc
  2. Georeference and project the satellite imagery
  3. Classify and assess accuracy of classification.
  4. Perform advanced classifier
  5. Carry out mini project in any of the application

List of Equipments:

  1. Number of i7 Computer system – 15 for 30 students (two students per system).
  2. Standard Satellite image processing software – 15 user licenses.
  3. Satellite data indifferent spatial resolution and corresponding Toposheets.
  4. A1size Scanner and Color plotter.
