Course Objectives:

Make the students understand the mechanism of synthesis of different chemical moieties Familiarise the students with the isolation of biomolecules from natural sources

List of Experiments:

1. Synthesis of aspirin
2. Hydrolysis of sucrose
3. Preparation of pyruvic acid from tartaric acid
4. Preparation of oleic acid from tartaric acid
5. Preparation of alpha D- glucopyranose pentaacetate
6. Preparation of 1,2,5,6 dicyclohexylnoine alpha d glucofuranose
7. Isolation of lycopene from tomato paste
8. Preparation of L-proline
9. Preparation of L-cysteine from hair
10. Preparation of S-ethylhydroxyl butonate from methylacetoacetate using yeast
11. Resolution of S-ethyl hydroxyl butonate using 3,5 dinitro benzoate.
12. Preparation of 5,10,15,20-tetrakisphenylporphyrin.

Equipment Needed for 20 Students

• Colorimeter
• Glassware, Chemicals, Media as required

At the end of the course the students will be able to

2. Be able to synthesize various Bioorganic compounds
3. Be able to work independently for the experimentation.
