Sensors and Measurements Laboratory

Course Objective:

  • To introduce the relevance of this course to the existing technology through demonstrations, case studies, simulations, contributions of scientist, national/international policies with a futuristic vision along with socio-economic impact and issues.
  • To study the characteristics of sensors, signal conditioning circuits and display devices.

List of Experiments:

  1. Characteristics of strain gauges.
  2. Displacement measurement using LVDT.
  3. Characteristics of temperature sensor-thermistor
  4. Characteristics of temperature sensor-RTD.
  5. Characteristics of thermocouple
  6. Characteristics of Light sensors-LDR, Photo Diode, Photo Transistor.
  7. Characteristics of Piezoelectric Transducer.
  8. Wheatstone Bridge and Kelvins Bridge for Measurement of Resistance.
  9. Measurement of capacitance using bridge circuits.
  10. Measurement of inductance using bridge circuits.
  11. Characteristics of passive filters.
  12. Force measurement using force sensor and calibration.
  13. Study of Multimeter and Medical Oscilloscope.
  14. Study of Input / Output characteristics using X – Y oscilloscope.

Course Outcome:

  1. Design and understand characteristics and calibration of various transducers.
  2. Design and develop bridge circuits to find unknown variables.
  3. Design and analyze filter characteristics.
  4. Understand various read out and display devices.
  5. Students can design a measurement system for various applications.
