Unit I

PVC RESIN 9
Introduction-Manufacturing of viny chloride monomer (VCM), polymeristion of VCM (bulk, solution, emulsion, suspension),- K-value and its significance – VCM Copolymers- chemically modified PVC – Syndiotactic PVC –Chlorinated PVC – Graft copolymers of PVC –Cross linked PVC – PVC Blends and Alloys.

Unit II

ADDITIVES FOR PVC 9
Additives: Plasticisers – Heat stabilizers – light stabilizers – antioxidants- lubricants – flame retardants, smoke suppressants –Flow promoting agent – Fillers – Impact Modifiers–processing aids – Colourants- Miscellaneous (nucleating agents, mould release agents, slip additives, antistatic agents, antifogging agents, coupling agents, antimicrobial agents – Foaming agents ) – regulatory requirements of additives and their selection.

Unit IV

PVC PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY 9
Injection Moulding, Extrusion Pipes, Tubing , Sheeting & film, Coating, Wire & cable Coating -, Blow Moulding Process, Calendering , PVC paste, PVC Lattices, PVC Solution , Cellular PVC product etc.

Unit V

TESTING OF RESIN AND PRODUCTS 9
Testing of PVC Resin – K- value, Bulk Density, Palsticizer Absorption –Particle Size Distribution –conductivity of Water- Powder flow –Fish eye content. & testing of PVC Compound. Testing of PVC End Product-Rigid& flexible Pipe -PVC Conduit pipe – PVC Window Profile –PVC Sheet & Film – Injection moulded fitting – Blow Moulded containers & Bottle – Shoe Sole –floor & Wall.

Course Outcomes:

At the end of the course, the students will be able to,

  • Having knowledge in PVC Resin & Suitable processing method based on application.
  • Suggest suitable compounding ingredients based on the requirements.
  • Apply knowledge in compounding & Formulation of P VC materials & formulate polymers for suitable applications
  • Suggest suitable Testing Method in compliance with Indian and international standards.
  • Select suitable equipment for mixing additives.
