Nanomaterials and applications detailed syllabus for Computer & Communication Engineering (CCE) for 2021 regulation curriculum has been taken from the Anna Universities official website and presented for the CCE students. Unit I

NANOMATERIALS Introduction, Classification: 0D, 1D, 2D, 3D nanomaterials and nano-composites, their mechanical, electrical, optical, magnetic properties; Nanomaterials versus bulk materials.

Unit II

THERMODYNAMICS & KINETICS OF NANOSTRUCTURED MATERIALS Size and interface/interphase effects, interfacial thermodynamics, phase diagrams, diffusivity, grain growth, and thermal stability of nanomaterials.

Unit IV

STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS Principles of emerging nanoscale X-ray techniques such as small angle X-ray scattering and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), electron and neutron diffraction techniques and their application to nanomaterials; SPM, Nanoindentation, Grain size, phase formation, texture, stress analysis

Unit V

APPLICATIONS Applications of nanoparticles, quantum dots, nanotubes, nanowires, nanocoatings; applications in electronic, electrical and medical industries

Course Outcomes:

After completion of this course, the students will be able to

  1. Evaluate nanomaterials and understand the different types of nanomaterials
  2. Recognise the effects of dimensionality of materials on the properties
  3. Process different nanomaterials and use them in engineering applications
  4. Use appropriate techniques for characterising nanomaterials
  5. Identify and use different nanomaterials for applications in different engineering fields
