Unit I
MOS TRANSISTOR PRINCIPLES MOS logic families (NMOS and CMOS), Ideal and Non Ideal IV Characteristics, CMOS devices. MOS(FET) Transistor DC transfer Characteristics ,small signal analysis of MOSFET.
Unit II
COMBINATIONAL LOGIC CIRCUITS Propagation Delays, stick diagram, Layout diagrams, Examples of combinational logic design, Elmore’s constant, Static Logic Gates, Dynamic Logic Gates, Pass Transistor Logic, Power Dissipation.

Unit IV
INTERCONNECT, MEMORY ARCHITECTURE Interconnect Parameters – Capacitance, Resistance, and Inductance, Logic Implementation using Programmable Devices (ROM, PLA, FPGA), Memory Architecture and Building Blocks.
Unit V
DESIGN OF ARITHMETIC BUILDING BLOCKS Arithmetic Building Blocks: Data Paths, Adders-Ripple Carry Adder, Carry-Bypass Adder, Carry Select Adder, Carry-Look Ahead Adder, Multipliers, Barrel Shifter, power and speed tradeoffs.
Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to
- Understand the working principle and characteristics of MOSFET
- Design Combinational Logic Circuits
- Design Sequential Logic Circuits and Clocking systems
- Understand Memory architecture and interconnects
- Design of arithmetic building blocks.
