OCH353: Energy Technology syllabus for Pharma 2021 regulation (Open Elective-IV)

Energy Technology detailed syllabus for Pharmacy (Pharma) for 2021 regulation curriculum has been taken from the Anna Universities official website and presented for the Pharma students. Unit II

CONVENTIONAL ENERGY Conventional energy resources, Thermal, hydel and nuclear reactors, thermal, hydel and nuclear power plants, efficiency, merits and demerits of the above power plants, combustion processes, fluidized bed combustion.

Unit III

NON-CONVENTIONAL ENERGY Solar energy, solar thermal systems, flat plate collectors, focusing collectors, solar water heating, solar cooling, solar distillation, solar refrigeration, solar dryers, solar pond, solar thermal power generation, solar energy application in India, energy plantations. Wind energy, types of windmills, types of wind rotors, Darrieus rotor and Gravian rotor, wind electric power generation, wind power in India, economics of wind farm, ocean wave energy conversion, ocean thermal energy conversion, tidal energy conversion, geothermal energy.

Unit V

ENERGY CONSERVATION Energy conservation in chemical process plants, energy audit, energy saving in heat exchangers, distillation columns, dryers, ovens and furnaces and boilers, steam economy in chemical plants, energy conservation.

Course Outcomes:

On completion of the course, the students will be able to

  1. Students will be able to describe the fundamentals and main characteristics of renewable energy sources and their differences compared to fossil fuels.
  2. Students will excel as professionals in the various fields of energy engineering
  3. Compare different renewable energy technologies and choose the most appropriate based on local conditions.
  4. Explain the technological basis for harnessing renewable energy sources.
  5. Identify and critically evaluate current developments and emerging trends within the field of renewable energy technologies and to develop in-depth technical understanding of energy problems at an advanced level.
