Course Objectives:
The main learning objective of this course is to provide hands on training to the students in:
- Analyzing the force, stress, deflection in mechanical components.
- Analyzing thermal stress heat transfer and vibration in mechanical components.
- Solving complex problems in the field of fluid flow and heat transfer
- Formulate the design problems into CFD/FEA.
- Applying computational fluid dynamics and to teach them how to solve a fluid flow problem using commercially available CFD software

- MATLAB basics, Dealing with matrices, Graphing-Functions of one variable and two variables
- Use of Matlab to solve simple problems in vibration Mechanism Simulation using software

FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS (FEA):
Introduction to FEA & its need in the industry – Mathematical Formulation of FEM- 1D and 2 D field problems – Isoperimetric Formulation- FEA Applications in: Stress analysis-Vibration analysis- Heat transfer analysis.

- Stress and deflection analysis in beams with different support conditions.
- Stress analysis of flat plates and simple shells.
- Stress analysis of axi – symmetric components.

- Vibration analysis of spring-mass systems.

Introduction to FEM & its need in the industry- Governing Equations in CFD- Discretisation: Finite Difference method- Finite volume method- Finite element method- Different Turbulence model studies- Grid generation methods- Application in: Laminar & Turbulent fluid flow – Compressible & Incompressible fluid flow- Conjugate Heat transfer analysis-Transient analysis.

- Flow inside a cyclone / scrubber
- External flow over a airfoil
- External flow over a 2D/3D car
- Pressure drop analysis in a valve
- Heat transfer analysis in heat exchanger

Upon the completion of this course the students will be able to
