Unit I

INTRODUCTION TO MICROSYSTEMS 9 Design, and material selection, micro-actuators: hydraulic, pneumatic, electrostatic/ magnetic etc. for medical to general purpose applications. Micro-sensors based on Thermal, mechanical, electrical properties; micro-sensors for measurement of pressure, flow, temperature, inertia, force, acceleration, torque, vibration, and monitoring of manufacturing systems.

Unit III

INTRODUCTION TO PRECISION ENGINEERING 9 Machine tools, holding and handling devices, positioning fixtures for fabrication/ assembly of microsystems. Precision drives: inch worm motors, ultrasonic motors, stick- slip mechanism and other piezo-based devices.
