Geometric Modeling and Simulation Laboratory

Course Objective:

The main learning objective of this course is to provide hands on training to the students in:

  1. Designing 3 Dimensional geometric model of parts, sub-assemblies, assemblies and exporting it to drawing.
  2. Analyzing the force, stress, deflection in mechanical components.
  3. Analyzing thermal stress and heat transfer in mechanical components.
  4. Analyzing the vibration of mechanical components.
  5. Analyzing the modal, harmonic, transient and spectrum concepts in mechanical components.

  1. 3D GEOMETRIC MODELLING 30
  2. CAD Introduction – Sketcher
  3. Solid modeling: Extrude, Revolve, Sweep, Variational sweep and Loft.
  4. Surface modeling: Extrude, Sweep, Trim, Mesh of curves and Free form.
  5. Feature manipulation: Copy, Edit, Pattern, Suppress, History operations.
  6. Assembly: Constraints, Exploded Views, Interference check
  7. Drafting: Layouts, Standard and Sectional Views, Detailing and Plotting.
  8. Exercises in Modeling and drafting of Mechanical Components
  9. Assembly using Parametric and Feature based Packages
  10. SIMULATION AND ANALYSIS 30
  11. Force and Stress analysis using link elements in Trusses.
  12. Stress and deflection analysis in beams with different support conditions.
  13. Stress analysis of flat plates.
  14. Stress analysis of axis-symmetric components.
  15. Thermal stress and heat transfer analysis of plates.
  16. Thermal stress analysis of cylindrical shells.
  17. Vibration analysis of spring-mass systems.
  18. Modal analysis of Beams.
  19. Harmonic, transient and spectrum analysis of simple systems.

Course Outcome:

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:
