Course Objective:
The main learning objective of this course is to provide hands on training to the students in:
- Predicting the thermal conductivity of solids and liquids.
- Estimating the heat transfer coefficient values of various fluids.
- Analyzing the working of cooling tower.
- Testing the performance of tubes in tube heat exchangers.
- Testing the performance of the refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.

- Thermal conductivity measurement of pipe insulation using lagged pipe apparatus.
- Determination of thermal conductivity of a composite wall, insulating powder, oils and water.
- Determination of heat transfer coefficient of air under natural convection and forced convection.
- Heat transfer from pin-fin under natural and forced convection.
- Determination of heat flux under pool boiling and flow boiling in various regimes.
- Determination of heat transfer coefficient in film-wise and drop-wise condensation.
- Determination of friction factor, heat transfer coefficient of cold/hot fluid and effectiveness of a tube-in-tube heat exchanger.
- Determination of Stefan – Boltzmann constant.
- Determination of emissivity of a grey surface.
- Calibration of thermocouples / RTDs at standard reference temperatures.
- Determination of Coefficient of Performance of a vapour compression refrigeration system and Air-Conditioning system.
- Determination of effectiveness of a cooling tower.
