Unit I
INTRODUCTION TO TEXTILE FIBRES Definition of various forms of textile fibres – staple fibre, filament, bicomponent fibres. Classification of Natural and Man-made fibres, essential and desirable properties of Fibres. Production and cultivation of Natural Fibers: Cotton, Silk, Wool -Physical and chemical structure of the above fibres.
Unit II
REGENERATED FIBRES Production Sequence of Regenerated Cellulosic fibres: Viscose Rayon, Acetate rayon – High wet modulus fibres: Modal and Lyocel ,Tencel

Unit IV
SPECIALITY FIBRES Properties and end uses of high tenacity and high modulus fibres, high temperature and flame retardant fibres, Chemical resistant fibres
Unit V
FUNCTIONAL SPECIALITY FIBRES Properties and end uses : Fibres for medical application – Biodegradable fibres based on PLA ,Super absorbent fibres elastomeric fibres, ultra-fine fibres, electrospun nano fibres, metallic fibres – Gold and Silver coated.
