Unit I

Basic Concepts of Medical Instrumentation
Medical Instrumentation systems – Classification of Biomedical instruments -Transducers Selection criteria – Bio-potentials – Electrical activity of excitable cells – Bio-potential Electrodes -Types of electrodes – Electrode behavior and circuit models.

Measurement of Non Electrical Parameters
Measurement of blood pressure – Cardiac output – Blood flow – Heart rate – Heart sound -Pulmonary function measurements – Spirometer – Photo Plethysmography, Body Plethysmography- Blood Gas analyzers, pH of blood – Measurement of blood pCO2, pO2, fingertip oximeter.
