Unit I
INTRODUCTION – THEORY AND BEHAVIOUR 9 Basic principles of prestressing – Classification and types – Advantages over ordinary reinforced concrete – Materials – High strength concrete and high tensile steel – Methods of prestressing -Freyssinet, Magnel, Lee-McCall and Gifford Udall anchorage systems – Analysis of sections of stresses by stress concept, strength concept and load balancing concept – Losses of prestress in post -tensioned and pre-tensioned members.

Unit III
DEFLECTION AND DESIGN OF ANCHORAGE ZONE 9 Factors influencing deflections – Short-term deflections of uncracked members – Prediction of longterm deflections due to creep and shrinkage – Check for serviceability limit states. Determination of anchorage zone stresses in post-tensioned beams by Magnels method, Guyons method and I.S. 1343 code – design of anchorage zone reinforcement – Check for transfer bond length in pretensioned beams- design of anchorage zone reinforcement – Check for transfer bond length in pretensioned beams.
