Unit I

Science of Measurement
Measurement System – Instrumentation – Classification and Characteristics of Transducers -Static and Dynamic – Errors in Measurements – Calibration – Primary and secondary standards.

Unit III

Photoelectric and Piezoelectric Sensors
Phototube, scintillation counter, Photo Multiplier Tube (PMT), photovoltaic, Photo conductive cells, photo diodes, phototransistor, comparison of photoelectric transducers, spectrophotometric applications of photo electric transducers. Piezoelectric active transducer and biomedical applications as pressure and Ultrasound transducer.

Unit V

Display and Recording Devices
Digital voltmeter – Multi meter – CRO – block diagram, CRT – vertical and horizontal deflection system, DSO, LCD monitor, PMMC writing systems, servo recorders, photographic recorder, magnetic tape recorder, Inkjet recorder, thermal recorder. Demonstration of the display and recording devices.
