OBJECTIVE: To train the students on identification of different kinds of fibres based on different tests and measurement of properties of fibres.

  1. Identification of fibres by feel, microscopic view, burning behavior and solubility
  • Natural cellulose fibres
  • Natural protein fibres
  • Regenerated cellulose fibres
  • Polyamide fibres
  • Polyester fibres
  • Polyolefin fibres

OUTCOMES: Upon completion of this course, the student shall be able to

  • Identify the given fibres using cross section, dissolution in solvent and burn test practically.
  • Determine important properties of fibres
  • Determine blend proportion of different fibres in a blended material
