The detailed syllabus for Polymeric Materials B.Tech 2016-2017 (R13) fourthsem is as follows
OBJECTIVE: To enable the students to understand the methods of preparation, properties and applications of thermoplastic materials covering commodity, engineering and high performance plastics.
UNIT I [9 Hours]
Methods of manufacturing – Properties and applications of polyethylene – LDPE LLDPE- HDPE, HMWHDPE- UHMWHDPE – Crosslinked polyethylene- Chlorinated polyethylene – Polypropylene – Homopolymers – Copolymers.
UNIT II [9 Hours]
Methods of manufacturing – Properties and applications of poly(vinyl chloride)-Poly (vinylidene chloride)- Poly(vinyl alcohol) – Poly(vinyl acetate)- Chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride)- Plastisols, Poly vinylpyrrolidiene,Polystyrene, HIPS, EPS, SAN, EVA, EPDM, ABS.
UNIT III [9 Hours]
Methods of manufacturing – properties and applications of Acrylates – Poly (methyl methacrylate)- Polyacrylonitrile. Aliphatic polyamides –Aromatic polyamides- Polyethylene terephthalate – Polybutylene terephthalate – Polyacetals and copolymers -PolycarbonatesThermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)
TOTAL : 45 PERIODS
OUTCOMES: Upon completing this course, the students
- Will familiarize in manufacturing process of plastic
- Will acquire skills in selecting polymeric materials for specific applications
- Will have basic knowledge of degradable plastics
