OBJECTIVES:
- To know about Indian constitution.
- To know about central and state government functionalities in India.
- To know about Indian society.
UNIT I : INTRODUCTION [ 9 hours]
Historical Background – Constituent Assembly of India – Philosophical foundations of the Indian Constitution – Preamble – Fundamental Rights – Directive Principles of State Policy – Fundamental Duties – Citizenship – Constitutional Remedies for citizens.
UNIT II : STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF CENTRAL GOVERNMENT [ 9 hours]
Union Government – Structures of the Union Government and Functions – President – Vice President – Prime Minister – Cabinet – Parliament – Supreme Court of India – Judicial Review.
UNIT III : STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF STATE GOVERNMENT [ 9 hours]
State Government – Structure and Functions – Governor – Chief Minister – Cabinet – State Legislature – Judicial System in States – High Courts and other Subordinate Courts.
[TOTAL: 45 PERIODS]
OUTCOMES: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand the functions of the Indian government
- Understand and abide the rules of the Indian constitution.
- Understand and appreciate different culture among the people.
