Course Outcomes:

Students will be able to achieve & demonstrate the following COs on completion of course based learning

  1. Optimize textile processes based on measurement of concentration and pH of textile auxiliaries
  2. Prepare solutions of accurate concentrations required in textiles
  3. Choose relevant oxidizing and reducing agents for bleaching, dyeing and printing.
  4. Use relevant organic compounds and reaction in the textile industry.
  5. Use Aliphatic and Aromatic Compounds in Textile Technology.
  6. Select relevant extraction method for separation of organic compounds.

Unit I

Acids and bases 1.1 Acids and bases: Arrhenius and Lewis concepts, difference between acid and base 1.2 Strength of acids and bases. 1.3 pH in wet processing: pH scale, mathematical expression, importance in scouring, bleaching, dyeing and printing Processes 1.4 Salts – Classification, alkali/ acid liberating agents. Use of salt in Siddha system in medicine consisting rock salt and various carbonates(IKS)

  1. *Determine the strength of a given acid using a standard base.
  2. *Determine pH of given solutions.
  3. *Prepare solutions of given concentration using weight by volume method.
  4. Prepare solutions of given concentration using volume by volume method.
  5. *Determine the strength of the supplied hydrogen peroxide solution.
  6. *Evaluate heat of neutralization of strong acid by strong base.
  7. Evaluate heat of displacement of copper by zinc.
  8. * Determine boiling point of given organic compound using relevant apparatus.
  9. Determine melting point of given organic compound.
  10. * Detect functional group in given organic compound.
  11. * Select a suitable solvent for the removal of i) Ink stain on fabric ii) Grease stain on fabric.
  12. * Identify the nature of given organic compound based on solubility and flame test.
  13. * Separate the components of a mixture by sublimation method.
  14. Separate mixture of two miscible liquids by distillation method
  15. Demonstrate the extraction of natural dye form i) Turmeric ii) Leaves iii) Beetroot using different solvents.
  16. Note : Out of above suggestive LLOs – ‘*’ Marked Practicals (LLOs) Are mandatory. Minimum 80% of above list of lab experiment are to be performed. Judicial mix of LLOs are to be performed to achieve desired outcomes.
