Course Outcomes:

Students will be able to achieve & demonstrate the following COs on completion of course based learning

  2. Evaluate fibre based on moisture relation.
  3. Select fibre based on fibre length and fineness.

Basics of Fibre Testing 1.1 Objects of textile testing 1.2 Types of Sampling: i) Random sample, ii) Biased sample, iii) Numerical sample, iv) Length biased sample, Factors governing to sampling. 1.3 Sampling Methods: i) Zoning sampling for cotton, ii) Core sampling for wool, iii) Squaring and Cur-squaring method for fibre sample from sliver, roving and yarn. 1.4 Fibre Identification: i) Microscopic Test, ii) Burning Test, iii) Solubility Test. 1 *Prepare cotton fibre sample by zoning method.
2 *Identify the textile fibre by microscopic method.
3 *Identify the textile fibre by burning test
4 Identify the textile fibre by solubility.
5 *Determine moisture regain and content in textile material by oven dry method.
6 *Determine moisture regain and content in textile material by moisture meter.
7 *Determine mean length using oil plate.
8 *Measure various fibre length parameters using comb sorter.
9 Determine fibre length parameters using digital fibrograph.
10 *Measure fibre fineness using gravimetric method.
11 *Determine cotton fibre micronaire using Air-flow principle.
12 *Determine maturity ratio and coefficient of cotton fibre using caustic soda method.
13 Determine single fibre strength using strength tester.
14 Determine fibre bundle strength using High Volume Instrument(HVI)
15 Measure neps in card web by shirley template.
16 *Determine trash content in cotton using trash analyzer.
Note : Out of above suggestive LLOs – ‘*’ Marked Practicals (LLOs) Are mandatory. Minimum 80% of above list of lab experiment are to be performed. Judicial mix of LLOs are to be performed to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Prepare fibre classification chart by collecting different fibre samples.

  • Write a note on essential and desirable properties of textile fibre.
  • Modern instruments used in spinning industry for fibre testing.
  • Find various fibre length parameters by analyzing different types of fibre array diagrams.
  • Study the effect of blowroom cleaning parameters on fibre properties.
  • Calculate nep generation rate of blowroom by analyzing input and output materials.
