Course Outcomes:

Students will be able to achieve & demonstrate the following COs on completion of course based learning

  1. Use cotton cultivation and harvesting process to produce raw material for spinning
  2. Use ginning and baling machines to convert raw cotton to bale
  3. Apply the principles of opening and cleaning for raw material.
  4. Use different blow room machines for optimum opening, cleaning and mixing of fibres
  5. Use different methods of lap preparation to produce lap

Practical / Tutorial Experiences

  1. * Use hand stapling method to determine the staple length of given fibres.
  2. * Use Ginning machine to understand separation of seeds from given fibres.
  3. * Use opening machine to understand tuft opening for given bale cotton. 3
  4. * Use coarse cleaning machine to understand the removal of coarse trash from given fibres. 3
  5. * Use fine cleaning machine to understand the removal of fine trash from given fibres. 3
  6. Use dust extractor machine to understand the principle of removing micro dust from fibers.
  7. * Use chute feed system to produce uniform lap sheet.
  8. * Use trash analyzer machine to estimate the trash percentage in given cotton fiber.
  9. * Use gearing diagram of ginning machine to calculate the speed of ginning roller.
  10. Use gearing diagram of coarse cleaning machine to calculate the speed of beater.
  11. * Use gearing diagram of fine cleaning machine to calculate the speed of cleaning roller.
  12. * Use gearing diagram of bale opener to calculate speed of the opening roller.
  13. * Select most suitable material transport system to transport the material from opening machine to carding machine.
  14. Observe the all spinning machines process sequence to identify the correct material flow sequence to produce the yarn.
  15. Use Mixing machine to understand intermixing of given fibers.
  16. Note : Out of above suggestive LLOs – ‘*’ Marked Practicals (LLOs) Are mandatory. Minimum 80% of above list of lab experiment are to be performed. Judicial mix of LLOs are to be performed to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Collect different types of textile fibres and prepare a booklet.
  • Prepare geographical map on card sheet and mention variety of fiber produced on respective geographical areas.
  • Prepare booklet that shows life cycle of cotton plant.
  • Prepare booklet by pasting various photographs of cotton picking practices performed in India.
  • Prepare card sheet by collecting different types of yarns with information.
  • Collect photographs and specification of various opening machines and Prepare booklet.
  • Collect photographs and specification of various cleaning machines and Prepare booklet.
  • Collect photographs and specification of various mixing machines and Prepare booklet.
  • Collect photographs and specification of various dust removal machines and Prepare booklet.
  • Collect cotton samples from coarse cleaning machine, mixing machine and fine cleaning machine and calculate cleaning efficiency using trash analyzer.
  • Prepare a booklet indicating martial transport system in Blowroom
  • Prepare a booklet indicating percentage of stop-go of material through coarse cleaning machine, mixing machine and fine cleaning machine.

Assignment

  • Draw and explain the Scutcher lap machine.
  • Classify textile fibres. Explain essential and desirable properties of textile fibres.
  • Note :
    Micro-project should be allotted groupwise and each group should contain maximum 4-5 students
