Course Objectives:
This course will develop a student;
- In recognizing the good materials to be used for the construction work
- In investigation of soil condition, Deciding and design of suitable foundation for different structures
- In supervision of different types of masonry
- In selection of materials, design and supervision of suitable type of floor and roof.
- To gain knowledge about doors, windows, plastering, painting, damp proofing, scaffolding, shoring, underpinning and to take suitable engineering measures.

Masonry: Definition and terms used in masonry. Brick masonry, characteristics and requirements of good brick masonry, Bonds in brick work, Header, Stretcher, English, Flemish bond, Stone masonry, Requirements of good stone masonry, Classification, characteristics of different stone masonry, Joints in stone masonry. Types of walls; load bearing, partition walls, cavity walls

Lintels and Arches: Definition, function and classification of lintels, Balconies, chejja and canopy. Arches; Elements and Stability of an Arch.
Floors and roofs: Floors; Requirement of good floor, Components of ground floor, Selection of flooring material, Laying of Concrete, Mosaic, Marble, Granite, Tile flooring, Cladding of tiles.
