Course Objectives:

This course will enable students to

  1. Learn about the simply supported beam, cantilever beam.
  2. Understand the Maxwell’s theorem and Poisson ration.
  3. Acquire the knowledge about buckling load, shear failure and shear centre.
  4. Deflection of a Simply Supported Beam.
  5. Deflection of a cantilever Beam
  6. Beam with combined loading by using superposition theorem
  7. Verification of Maxwell’s Reciprocal Theorem.
  8. Determination of Young’s Modulus using strain gages.
  9. Poisson Ratio Determination
  10. Buckling load of slender Eccentric Columns and Construction of Southwell Plot
  11. Shear Failure of Bolted and Riveted Joints
  12. Bending Modulus of sandwich Beam
  13. Fault detection and de-lamination studies in composite plate
  14. Determination of fundamental frequency and spectrum analysis of a cantilever beam and harmonics.
  15. Vibration induced structural damage studies
  16. Determining of Shear centre location for open sections-unsymmetrical bending
  17. Determining of Shear centre location for closed sections

Conduct of Practical Examinations:

  1. All lab practicals are to be included for practical examination.
  2. Students are allowed to pick one experiment from the lot.
  3. Strictly follow the instructions as printed on the cover page of answer script for breakup of marks.
  4. Change of experiment is allowed only once and 15% Marks allotted to the procedure part to be made zero.
