Plant Location: Factors influencing plant location, theories of plant location, plant layout objectives of plant layout, principles of plant layout, types of plant layout, their merits and demerits, facilities design function: objectives. Simple exercises on layouts Introduction to Material Handling: Objectives and principles of material handling, unit load concept, Basic handling equipment types, Common material handling equipments
Module-2
Plant Design: Layout procedure, study of some approaches (Immer, Nadler, Muther, Apple James and Reed’s approach), systematic layout planning, the activity relationship chart, Constructing the activity relationship chart, Activity relationship diagram.

Question paper pattern:
- The question paper will have ten full questions carrying equal marks.
- Each full question will be for 20 marks.
- There will be two full questions (with a maximum of four sub- questions) from each module.
- Each full question will have sub- question covering all the topics under a module.
- The students will have to answer five full questions, selecting one full question from each module.
