Module-1
JIT-AN INTRODUCTION: Speed of JIT movement, the new production system research association of Japan, some definitions of JIT, core Japanese practices of JIT, enabling JIT to occur, basic element of JIT, benefits of JIT. MODERN PRODUCTION SYSTEM: Key feature of Toyota’s production system, basic framework of Toyota production system. KANBAN SYSTEM – other types of kanban’s, kanban rules, determining the number of kanban’s in Toyota production system.

PRODUCTION SMOOTHING IN TOYOTA PRODUCTION SYSTEM: production planning, production smoothing, adaptability to demand fluctuations, sequencing method for the mixed model assembly line to realize smoothed production. EDP system for support of the Toyota Production system. GLOBAL IMPLEMENTATION OF JIT: JIT in automotive industry, JIT in electronics, computer, telecommunication and instrumentation, JIT in process type industry, JIT in seasonal demand industry, other manufacturing industries, conclusion.

Question paper pattern:
- The question paper will have ten full questions carrying equal marks.
- Each full question will be for 20 marks.
- There will be two full questions (with a maximum of four sub- questions) from each module.
- Each full question will have sub- question covering all the topics under a module.
- The students will have to answer five full questions, selecting one full question from each module.
