Rationale:

The study of different types of environmental pollutions has already been dealt in the previous paper. Due to vast Civil Engineering developmental activities, the environment degradation is going on, to assess the impact on the environment as well as to manage the environment, the need of the paper felt necessary. The contents of this paper have been developed to cater the above need.

2. PROTECTION OF ENVIRONMENT (10 Periods)

Clean Environment, Need and Importance of Clean Environment, Sustainable Development, Need for Environmental Protection: Control of environmental pollution, Land and water management, Nature living resource conservation, Development of non-polluting sources of energy, Environmental education and awareness.

3. LAND USE, POLLUTION AND ABUSE (05 Periods)

Land use, land use and environmental quality, land use and natural disasters, soil degradation problems: Erosion, Salinization and Waterlogging, Soil Pollution, Management Planning for Land Use and Environmental Improvement.

5. ENVIRONMENT IMPACT ASSESSMENT (E. I. A.): (05 Periods)

Impact of Environmental Management Processes on Biological System including man. EIA of developmental projects like residential and commercial complexes, dams, reservoirs, canals, railways, highways, tunnels, bridges, etc.

6. HAZARDS AND ACCIDENT PREVENTIONS: (10 Periods)

Terminology relating to chemical hazards, classification of chemicals, hazards and hazardous chemicals, Hazards associated with manufacturing storage and handling of chemicals, Hazards associated with particulate matter specially from cement, metallurgical industries and thermal power station, I.S. and other codes of safety for operational hazards in laboratories and industries.

7. DISASTER MANAGEMENT: (5 Periods)

8. MEASURING TECHNOLOGIES: (07 Periods)

Measuring sampling techniques for quantification of various parameters under various conditions of air, water and land systems; Physical, chemical and biological parameters.

9. TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES: (10 Periods)

Standards based on B.I.S./Pollution Control Board, Water Treatment for domestic use, Industrial water treatment, Domestic waste water treatment, Industrial waste water treatment, Radioactive waste control and Air pollution control.

10. AIR AND WATER POLLUTION CONTROL ACTS : (5 Periods)

Classification of polluting/Non polluting Agencies. Procedure for getting N.O.C. and Consent. Calculation ofCess on industrial water consumption, Environmental Audit/Statement. Rules and regulations related to startingany new industry and undertaking and new developmental projects by government and non-government agencies.
Ministries of environment at central and state levels. Constitution, composition and functions of Central Board and State Boards for the prevention of pollution
