Course Outcomes:

Students will be able to achieve & demonstrate the following COs on completion of course based learning

  1. Prepare the “Pirn” using a weft preparatory machine with the required specifications.
  2. Set the mechanisms under the primary motions of the weaving loom according to the given fabric sort.
  3. Adjust the let-off and takeup mechanisms to produce fabric with the required pick density.
  4. Maintain auxiliary motion for weaving defect-free fabric.
  5. Identify various fabric defects and analyse the causes and remedies of the same.

Unit I

The Pirn Winding Process 1.1 Objectives and significance of pirn winding machine. Passage of yarn through the components of pirn winding machine. Construction and working of various parts in prin widing machine. 1.2 Types of pirn used for non-automatic and automatic looms. Build of pirn. Defects of pirn thier cuase and remedies. 1.3 Calculation of pirn winding speed, production & efficiency from given parameters. Video Demonstrations Presentations Lecture Using Chalk-Board

Suggested Micro Project / Assignment

Self learning

  • Gather information on possible defects in the woven fabric and their relative proportion from the industry.
  • Explore the timing cycle of primary motions on the automatic loom from various resources.

Seminar

  • Positive let-off and take-up mechanism
  • Types of shuttles used in power and autoloom

Micro project

  • Conduct an experimental investigation to demonstrate the combined effect of varying the number of teeth on standard and change wheels in the take-up mechanism on picks spacing in fabric and present the findings
  • Establish the relation between the picking force and speed of the shuttle in the power loom and present the findings in terms of graphs and correlation equations
  • Design the negative shedding cam to produce the required weave and demonstrate its working through presentation/ working model

Assignment

  • Collect and compile the defect samples frequently observed in woven fabric during manufacturing. Name each and report possible causes and remedies.
  • Inspect power looms of diverse widths within the weaving industry and document their respective sley eccentricities.
  • Report the current practice in the power loom industry to maintain uniform tension on warp from full to empty beam.

Laboratory Equipment

  1. Pirn winding machine with at least one head 1
  2. Defective fabric samples 5
  3. Power loom with at least 4 heald frames. All
  4. Tools like a spanner, gauges, scale, calipers All
