Course Objectives:

  • To provide basic knowledge about parameter settings of injection molding machine & presses.
  • To introduce the industrial type assembly & maintenance of various kinds of advanced tooling.

Course Outcomes:

On completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the working of modern injection moulding machines and presses
  2. Demonstrate the maintenance & assembly of advanced injection moulds.
  3. Demonstrate the maintenance & assembly of industrial type press tools
  4. Demonstrate the maintenance & assembly of industrial type die casting dies

Module 1:

  1. Apply the general press settings, die alignment, clamping procedures & shut height adjustments.
  2. Operate double action & triple action press.
  3. Apply the Injection molding machine calculations.
  4. Discover defective moldings, their causes and remedies.
  5. Operate the general setting like clamping force, cooling time, mold temperature, injection pressure, and holding pressure, knock out rod movement etc. of injection molding machine.

Module 2:

  1. Demonstrate dismantling, Trouble shooting, Maintenance & Assembly of Industrial type split cavity, split core (Angular acting) injection molds.
  2. Demonstrate Dismantling, Trouble shooting, Maintenance & Assembly of Industrial type three plate molds, threaded component molds & Hot runner molds.

Module 3:

  1. Demonstrate dismantling, Trouble shooting, Maintenance & Assembly of Industrial type multi stage progressive tools.
  2. Demonstrate dismantling, Trouble shooting, Maintenance & Assembly of Industrial type combination & compound tools.

Module 4:

  1. Discover the causes and remedies of defects – Shrink holes, Gas holes, Segregation, shrink cracks, Porosity, Cold shuts, Flow lines & Blooms, Foliations, Hard spots, Surface draws and Depressions, Soldering, sink mark and excessive flash etc.
  2. Demonstrate dismantling, Trouble shooting, Maintenance & Assembly of Industrial type diecasting dies.
