Course Objectives:
- To impart practical knowledge about various properties of light.
- To demonstrate various properties of laser.
- To demonstrate different properties of optical fiber.
Course Outcomes:
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Determine wave length of light/ laser, angle of prism and angle of minimum deviation using spectrometer. 1
- Determine refractive index/thickness of glass slab/liquid using travelling microscope.
- Determine wavelength of light/ radius of curvature of lens using Newton’s ring apparatus.
- Determine the numerical aperture and acceptance angle of an optical fiber.
Module 1:
- Familiarize spectrometer
- Determine the angle of minimum deviation of a prism
- Determine the angle of a prism
- Determine the refractive index of prism material
- Determine the wavelength of laser/light using spectrometer.
Module 2:
- Familiarize Travelling Microscope
- Determine the refractive index and thickness of glass slab.
- Determine the refractive index and thickness of given liquid
Module 3:
- Familiarize Newton’s ring apparatus
- Determine wavelength of light using Newton’s Ring apparatus.
- Determine radius of curvature of lens.
Module 4:
- Determine the angle of divergence of laser
- Determine the particle size in a powder.
- Determine the numerical aperture and acceptance angle of optical fibre.
