Course Objectives:

This course will enable students to

  1. Understand the elements of satellite communication.
  2. Understand the Different modulation and Multiplexing Schemes.
  3. Acquire the knowledge of Satellite Telemetry, Tracking and Telecommand.

Module 2

Transmission, Multiplexing, Multiple Access And Coding: Different modulation and Multiplexing Schemes, Multiple Access Techniques FDMA, TDMA, CDMA and DAMA, Coding Schemes, Satellite Packet Communications.

Module 3

Satellite Link Design: Basic link analysis, Interference analysis, Rain induced attenuation and interference, Ionospheric characteristics, Link Design with and without frequency reuse.

Applications: VSAT-VSAT Technologies, Networks MSS-AMSS, MMSS.

Course Outcomes:

After studying this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply of concepts of orbital mechanics.
  2. Classify the modulation and Multiplexing Schemes.
  3. Identify the applications of satellites.

Question paper pattern:

  • The question paper will have ten questions.
  • Each full question consists of 16 marks.
  • There will be 2 full questions (with a maximum of four sub questions) from each module.
  • Each full question will have sub questions covering all the topics under a module.
  • The students will have to answer 5 full questions, selecting one full question from each module.
