Course Objectives:

The students will be able to

  1. Understand the various types of Carbon compounds and their properties.
  2. Understand preparation of petrochemical compounds from different sources.

Module 2

Chemicals from C2 Compounds: Feed stock, technology, engineering problems and usage of Ethylene and acetylene, ethanol, polyethylene, acetaldehyde, ethanolamines, acetic acid.

Module 3

Chemical from C3 Compounds: Isopropanol, acetone, acrylonitrile, polypropylene, propyleneoxide.

Module 5

Manufacture of phenol-2 methods. Styrene-2 methods. Phthalican hydridemaleic anhvdride, nitrobenzene, aniline. Manufacture of industrial based on petroleum feed stocks.

Course Outcomes:

After studving this course, students will be able to:

  1. Differentiate varieties of carbon compounds and their properties.
  2. Explain the mechanism of preparation of primarv and secondarv compounds.

Question paper pattern:

  • The question paper will have ten questions.
  • Each full Question consisting of 20 marks
  • There will be 2 full questions(with a maximum of four sub questions) from each module.
  • Each full question will have sub questions covering all the topics under a module.
  • The students will have to answer 5 full questions, selecting one full question from each module.
