Course Objectives:

This course will enable students to

  1. Study the mechatronic and actuation systems.
  2. Understand about the sensors and logic functions.
  3. Acquire the knowledge of microprocessors.

Module 2

Review of Transducers and Sensors: Definition and classification of transducers. Definition and classification of sensors. Principle of working and applications of light sensors, proximity sensors and Hall effect sensors. Signal Conditioning: Introduction to signal conditioning. The operational amplifier, Protection, Filtering, Wheatstone bridge, Digital signals Multiplexers, Data acquisition.

Module 3

Introduction to Microprocessors: Evolution of Microprocessor, Organization of Microprocessors (Preliminary concepts), basic concepts of programming of microprocessors. Review of concepts – Boolean algebra, Logic Gates and Gate Networks,
Binary & Decimal number systems, memory representation of positive and negative integers, maximum and minimum integers. Conversion of real, numbers, floating point notation, representation of floating point numbers, accuracy and range in floating point representation, overflow and underflow, addition of floating point numbers, character representation. Introduction to Digital system. Processing Pulsemodulation.

Module 5

Central Processing Unit of Microprocessors: Introduction, timing and control unit basic concepts, Instruction and data flow, system timing, examples of INTE
085 and INTE
004 register organization. Instruction set of 8085, programming the 8085, assembly language programming.

Course Outcomes:

After studying this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify the working principle of mechatronic and actuation systems.
  2. Classify the transducers and sensors.
  3. Write a Program for 8085 microprocessor.

Question paper pattern:

  • The question paper will have ten questions.
  • Each full question consists of 16 marks.
  • There will be 2 full questions (with a maximum of four sub questions) from each module.
  • Each full question will have sub questions covering all the topics under a module.
  • The students will have to answer 5 full questions, selecting one full question from each module.
