Course Objectives:

This course will enable students to

  1. Learn the concepts of mechanical measurements and metrology
  2. Use the concept of accuracy, error and calibration
  3. Use the basic metrological instruments
  4. Calibration of Pressure Gauge
  5. Calibration of Thermocouple
  6. Calibration of LVDT
  7. Calibration of Load cell
  8. Determination of modulus of elasticity of a mild steel specimen using strain gauges.
  9. Comparison and measurements using vernier caliper and micrometer
  10. Measurement of vibration parameters using vibration setup.
  11. Measurements using Optical Projector / Toolmaker Microscope.
  12. Measurement of angle using Sine Center / Sine bar / bevel protractor
  13. Measurement of alignment using Autocollimator / Roller set
  14. Measurement of Screw thread Parameters using Two-wire or Three-wire method.
  15. Measurements of Surface roughness, Using Tally Surf/Mechanical Comparator
  16. Measurement of gear tooth profile using gear tooth vernier /Gear tooth micrometer
  17. Calibration of Micrometer using slip gauges.

Conduct of Practical Examinations:

  1. All lab practicals are to be included for practical examination.
  2. Students are allowed to pick one experiment from the lot.

  4. Change of experiment is allowed only once and 15% Marks allotted to the procedure part to be made zero.
