Course Objectives: The objectives of this course is to make students to learn:
- In recognizing the quality of materials required for construction works
- In recognizing the good binding materials used in construction
- In selection of quality building service and maintenance materials.

Glass: Types and uses of glass as an engineering material. a) Rubber: Types, Vulcanization and compounding of rubber, synthetic rubber. b) Bitumen and Asphalt: General properties and uses, Plaster of Paris, surki-mortar-General properties and uses. |

| Electrical, Thermal and sound insulations: A brief account of their physical properties and uses.

Course outcomes: After successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Select suitable materials for building construction works
- Adopt suitable repair and maintenance work to enhance durability of buildings

Question paper pattern:
- The question paper will have Ten questions, each full question carrying 16 marks.
- There will be two full questions (with a maximum Three sub divisions, if necessary) from each module.
- Each full question shall cover the topics under a module.
- The students shall answer Five full questions selecting one full question from each module.
- If more than one question is answered in modules, best answer will be considered for the award of marks limiting one full question answer in each module.
