Course Objectives:
This Laboratory course will enable the Students to
- Study the concepts of Time Division Multiplexing.
- Understand the designing of Digital Modulation techniques.
- Study and analyze the generation of Line Codes.
- Model an Optical Communication System and study its Characteristics.
- Gain hands on experience in Simulating the Digital Communication concepts.

Part – A:
Following Experiments No. 1 to 4 has to be performed using discrete components.
- Time Division Multiplexing and De-multiplexing of two Band limited signals.
- ASK Generation & Detection.
- FSK Generation & Detection.
- PSK Generation and detection.
- DPSK & QPSK Generation and Detection.
- Generation of Line Codes.
- Measurement of Propagation Loss, Bending Loss and Numerical Aperture of an Optical Fiber.
Part – B:
Simulation Experiments using MATLAB/Simulink/Lab view/Equivalent
- Pulse code Modulation and Demodulation.
- Delta modulation, Adaptive delta Modulation.
- Simulate the transmission of baseband signals with raised cosine Transmitter Filter and Plot Eye Diagram.
- Computations of the Probability of bit error for binary ASK, FSK and PSK for an AWGN Channel and Compare them with their Performance curves.
- Spread Spectrum Communication.

Conduct of Practical Examinations:
- All practicals are to be included for Practical Examination.
- Students are allowed to pick one Experiment from the lot.
- For examination one question from PART.A and one question from PART.B to be set.
- Strictly follow the instructions as printed on the cover page of answer script for breakup of marks.
- Change of Experiment is allowed only once and the Marks allotted for the Procedure part to be made zero.
