Module-1

Introduction and the Mines Act, 1952: Brief historical perspective legislation in Indian Mines. Preliminary, Inspectors and Certifying surgeons, committee, mining operations and management of mines. Provisions to health and safety. Hours and limitations of employment Leave with wages, Regulations and bylaws, penalties and procedures.

Module-2

The Mines Rules,1955: Preliminary, committee, court of enquiry, certifying surgeons, Medical Examination of persons employed. Workmen’s inspector and safety committee, health and sanitation provision, first aid and medical appliance. Employment of persons, leave with wages and overtime. Welfare amenities, registers and notices.

Module-4

Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1952 and related rules: Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957, Mineral Concession Rules, 1960and Mineral conservation and Development Rules. Salient provisions of the mines.

Question Paper Pattern:

  • The question paper will have ten full questions carrying equal marks.
  • Each full question will be for 20 marks.
  • There will be two full questions (with a maximum of four sub- questions) from each module.
  • Each full question will have sub- question covering all the topics under a module.
  • The students will have to answer five full questions, selecting one full question from each module.
