Unit I Introduction to sheet metal technology, tools and machinery

Introduction, job categories, Fundamentals of sheet metal work, Hand tools -scratch awls, dividers, steel square, trammel points, rule. Punches-prick, centre, solid, hollow, hand lever. Hand Grover, Rivet set, Chisels-Flat, cape, diamond point, round nose. Hammers and types. Mallet, Snips, Pliers, Handy seamer or tongs, soldering coppers, Hacksaws, files, Bench stakes
and stake holder, machines and supports, Burring, turning, Wiring, Creeping, Beading , rotary circular shears, hand brake, Pan brake, press brake, power shear.

Unit II Sheet metal types and operations

Steel sheet metal-coated and solid sheets, sheet steel gages, measuring tools, Galvanized sheet metal, stainless steel, Tin plate, Non-ferrous like copper, aluminium, lead, zinc, oxide of metals.
Cutting operation-producing blanks, cutting holes, progressive, miscellaneous operation. Forming operation-bending, flanging, hemming, seaming, curling, wiring, ribbing, staking, crimping, bulging, beading, enclosing, tube forming. Drawing operation– cupping, box drawing, panel drawing, Shallow, deep panel drawing.

Unit III Materials and Fasteners for Sheet Metal

Unit IV Sheet metal patterns

Introduction, Methods of developments with example like, developing patterns for rectangular duct, round pipe, rectangular tray, cone.

Unit V Pneumatic and Hydraulic tools

Pneumatic tools for riveting, drilling, hammering, Hydraulic pipe bending machine, Cone rollers and corrugated curved rollers, Circular shearing

Unit VI Safety recommendations in Sheet Metal Shop

  2. Write a note on coated and solid sheets
  3. Explain Hand tools with a neat sketch OR Explain the types of chisels with a neat sketch
  4. How do you measure the sheet metal thickness by micrometer, explain with suitable example.

GUIDELINES TO QUESTION PAPER SETTING

  1. The question paper must be prepared based on the blue print without changing the weight age of model fixed for each unit.
  2. The question paper pattern provided should be adhered to
    1. Part-A: 06 questions to be answered out of 09 questions, each carrying 05 marks
    2. Part-B: 07 questions to be answered out of 10 questions, each carrying 10 marks. May be given sub-divisions (‘a’) & (‘b’) carry marks in the pattern of 5+5 or 6+4 or 7+3 or 8+2.
