UNIT-I: SINGEING AND DESIZING 06Hrs

Water: Classification, Impurities, Hardness, Methods of determining Hardness, Softening methods.

Singeing: Objects, Methods of singeing .

Desizing: Objects, Methods of desizing -Hydrolytic desizing methods, Oxidative desizing methods.

UNIT-II: SCOURING AND BLEACHING 14Hrs

Scouring: Objects, Saponification, Emulsification and Detergent action. Kiers: vertical kier, Horizontal kier. Scouring of cotton and wool, degumming of silk.

Bleaching: Objects, Classification, Bleaching of cotton – Bleaching powder, Sodium hypochlorite, Hydrogen peroxide, sodium chlorite. Wool Bleaching, silk Bleaching , Brightening Agents, Dupont process, Machines: J-Box-Rope and open width, Developments in bleaching ,Souring, Antichlorination, degradation of cotton during scouring and bleaching. UNIT-III: MERCERIZATION AND THEORY OF DYEING 06Hrs

UNIT-IV: DYEING OF CELLULOSIC FIBRES 12Hrs

Direct Dyes: Chemical constitution of direct dyes, Substantively of direct dyes, Action of electrolytes, Applications of direct dyes on cellulosic, protein fibers. After treatments.

Reactive dyes: Application of dichlorotriazinyl dyes at low temperatures and monochlorotriazinyl dyes at high temperatures, by batch and continuous methods. Description of the Remazol, Primazine ard Levafix dyes.

Vat Dyes: Classification of vat dyes based on method of application, properties and applications, solublized vat dyes, after treatments.

Sulphur Dyes: Properties and application, after treatment.

Azoic Dyes: Development of Napthal derivatives, Diazotization, coupling and application. Natural dyes: Properties and application.

UNIT-V: DYEING OF PROTEIN AND SYNTHETIC FIBRES 08Hrs

Basic Dyes: Chemistry and classification of basic dyes. The nature of the affinity of basic dyes for fibres. Methods of application, The fastness properties of basic dyes and their uses.

Acid Dyes: The chemical nature, classification, and application of acid dyes. Application of acid dyes at high temperature with dye bath assistants.

Disperse Dyes: Disperse dyes and their mechanism of dyeing. Presetting thermoplastic fibres. Methods of application on cellulose acetate, Nylon and polyester.

UNIT-VI: DYEING MACHINES 06Hrs
